Thinkin bout Asher Angel’s new single — an ultimate country-pop break-up anthem

Singer-songwriter and actor Asher Angel released his new song “thinkin bout me” on March 21, his second single this year, furthering his depth into the country genre. With genius lyrical wordplay and a catchy, traditional country track, Angel creates a perfect break-up anthem.

While not new to the public eye, Angel continues to break bounds and push the realms on what he can do, slowly crossing off bucket list items and adding new skills to his repertoire. The star is best known for playing a lead heartthrob role in Disney Channel’s “Andi Mack” and a comedic, younger version of a superhero in “Shazam!”. And now in 2025, he is making his transition from pop to country music known to the world, showing there’s nothing he can’t accomplish.

The 22-year-old is set to release his first EP in May. The first single from this record, “alternate ending,” dropped in January.

“thinkin bout me” starts off with the strumming of a guitar flowing into his deep vocals, letting listeners know right off the bat this is a country song and a new chapter for the singer. Throughout the track, Angel masterfully blends catchy, pop hooks with irresistible country melodies and twang.

The lyrics explore someone who has gone through a bitter break-up. Speaking directly to a mystery woman, Angel perfectly expresses anger, resentment and holding a grudge towards someone he used to love as he tries to move on.

“You made a grown man wanna cry / Life of the party / You were never mine / You really ain't Sweet Caroline,” Angel sings in the pre-chorus, referencing Neil Diamond’s timeless hit.

With an undeniably catchy chorus, “thinkin bout me” will leave any and all listeners humming his perfectly crafted melody for the rest of the day.

The bridge combines previous verses and choruses together to create a intertwining musical moment that deepens his resentment toward the relationship. It’s at this time where Angel slows down the track slightly, using vocal effects to quiet his voice and create a soft transition before a huge return of drums, guitars and passionate vocals.

The way the song ends is particularly interesting, with ad lib vocals swirling around the final chorus right before we get one last epic drum sequence that flows into a fiddle to abruptly end the track.

With this new country twist, Angel is now pursuing his dream of music in a way that resonates with him more deeply now than ever, he said in a recent interview. He feels these are his most introspective lyrics yet, and a “true reflection” of his current self.

“thinkin bout me” is a song that will leave listeners thinking about it for a long time and replaying it to find new parts they missed before. A great example of sonic storytelling, “thinkin bout me” is an exciting tease in what’s to come in Angel’s future and a glimpse into his sound for his spring EP.
