“IDK THESE DAYS”- CAROLINE ROMANO: SINGLE REVIEW
Ahead of her new EP, How the Good Girls Die, out February 21, Caroline Romano has released her fourth single, “IDK These Days.” “IDK These Days” ties in sonically with the three other songs released so far, but features a softer, sadder, perhaps more desperate sound that creates a beautiful range of energy that is very successful in building hype for the EP.
Lyrically, “IDK These Days” is a relatable track on the unsurety of one’s own emotions, especially relating to growing up. Romano is incredibly talented at expressing herself and showing vulnerability set to a pleasing melody that drives straight to the heart.
“IDK These Days” showcases Romano’s captivating vocals that make the listener feel as though she’s singing right to them. The emotion flooding her voice, namely during the chorus, spells out the sincerity of the words that Romano is trying to get across. The song stays consistent in volume until 2:10, where she seems to scream to express the frustrations she’s singing of.
The bridge is a standout, getting more and more desperate until she breaks into a scream and plays on the chorus. It’s full of questions she will seemingly never get answers to and it causes the listener to truly connect with her and the song.
There are many lines spread throughout the song that deserve a shout out, “Was it tears in the parking lot / He loves me, he loves me not”, “It happened overnight / Years of all my spite / Loosened by the tongue that I don’t have the strength to bite”, and “I cut the ribbons from my hair” are all integral pieces for one intricately-woven puzzle. Romano is truly a songwriting genius.
“IDK These Days” is full of vivid details and images that truly elevate the song and generate hype for the EP in anticipation for more hits like this.
