There are certain songs that arrive at exactly the right time. Good Neighbours’ newest single, “Superstar,” feels destined to soundtrack long summer evenings and festival crowds. Following the success of their debut album, Blue Sky Mentality, last year, the London duo returned with their first new release, offering a fresh glimpse into the next chapter of their sound.

Made up of Oli Fox and Scott Verrill, Good Neighbours have quickly become known for writing feel-good indie-pop that captures life’s biggest emotions without overcomplicating them. “Superstar” builds on that while introducing what the band describes as “a rawer, more energetic sound.” Over the past few weeks, they have already been teasing the track during festival performances across Europe.

“Superstar” is about the excitement of falling for someone almost instantly. Good Neighbours describe it as “a shameless admission of catching feelings for someone you’ve only just met,” embracing the chaos that comes with letting your guard down instead of pretending to play it cool. That carefree attitude runs through every part of the song.

“You’re my superstar baby / Lost in your lights / Yeah, I can’t deny / You’re my superstar lately”

The lyrics capture the rush of first impressions. Lines like “I got no self-control” and “I feel like I could float” reinforce that sense of losing yourself in the excitement of a new connection. It’s the kind of feeling that makes everything else fade into the background, even if only for a moment.

The chorus makes those feelings even clearer. By repeating “You’re my superstar, baby,” the song keeps returning to the same idea, almost as if the narrator is stuck on one person and cannot think about anything else. The repetition mirrors the feeling of having one person constantly on your mind, capturing the excitement of becoming consumed by a new connection. Even as the final chorus moves into an extended instrumental part with the repeated chant of “superstar,” the energy never fades. Instead, it leaves listeners wanting to hit play all over again.

If this is the direction Good Neighbours are heading next, “Superstar” is an exciting first step into a new era. The track perfectly captures the carefree energy that has become one of the duo’s greatest strengths, making it easy to imagine “Superstar” finding its way onto plenty of summer playlists in the weeks ahead.
