Last month, girli gave the world a piece of her mind with the release of her brutally honest third album it’s just my opinion. The London alt-pop provocateur bravely uses her art to confront the world’s current political climate through her own lived experiences as a queer woman. Her music puts the power back into the hands of the people listening, reminding them that their voices hold far more weight than they can imagine.

In support of the album’s release, girli is currently on her first official headlining tour across North America. She kicked off the 12-date run with a spectacular late-night show at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, NY on June 12.

Girli burst onto the stage wearing a “Make America Gay Again” shirt ready to give the audience a night full of opinionated pop music and pure fun. The setlist showed love to her entire discography, featuring almost all of it’s just my opinion alongside older fan favorites including “Nothing Hurts Like A Girl,” “More Than A Friend” and “Friday Night Big Screen.”

A true stand-out moment of the night was “Matriarchy,” as girli’s vocals effortlessly shined while singing about the beauty of sapphic romance and the crowd proudly sang every word back to her.

Girli’s live shows are the definition of queer joy. The four walls of Baby’s All Right immediately became a safe haven for her fanbase. She embraced the beauty of playing these shows during pride month and commented on how lovely it felt to celebrate with the crowd.

The fan interactions were continuous and sincere as girli kept thanking everyone for coming, using her time to speak about current injustices, and even hosting a fun contest where she picked a favorite slogan t-shirt. The first “opinionated hun” of the tour was someone wearing a shirt that read: “I turn mascs into bottoms.”

Before the final song in her set, girli spoke about the inspiration behind “Slap On The Wrist” and urged the audience to use this time to scream, cry and do whatever they needed to do to let out their feelings. The song has become an anthem for survivors of sexual abuse and harrasment, shedding light on the ways the severity of these behaviors are often overlooked in society. For two and a half minutes, Baby’s All Right was burning with unfiltered feminine rage.

The intimate show felt like a full-circle celebration of her growth as an artist and activist, especially since girli first made her live debut in the United States nearly two years ago at Baby’s All Right. Her return was a tangible representation of the direct impact that she’s made from speaking her mind over the last decade.

If I had any opinion to say about this night shared with girli, it’s that her unapologetic and fiery spirit is exactly what the world needs right now.

After wrapping up the North American leg on July 1, girli will bring the Opinionated Tour to the UK and Europe this fall starting with Hamburg, Germany on Oct. 6.
