After claiming the world as her oyster with her fourth studio album last year, Chloe Moriondo is back with her shimmering new single “glow.” The new track marks the NYC-based alt-pop sensation’s first independent release since the early days of her career nearly a decade ago.
If you like things that sparkle, Moriondo is destined to be your latest obsession. Her artistry continues to be defined by constant evolution, seamlessly shifting between genres like bedroom-pop, pop-punk, indie-rock and hyperpop across her four albums. Moriondo kicked off this next chapter by teasing snippets of the song across social media platforms earlier this month, fueling excitement from fans eagerly awaiting new music.
“glow” is a pure pop anthem that transports the listener into the fun, whimsical world of Moriondo’s creative mind. The dreamy effort reintroduces her signature charismatic and candid identity while not straying too far from the beloved glitchy pop influences found on oyster. Its glittering synths, lighthearted lyricism and delicate vocals detail the thrilling rush of infatuation. The song’s addictive hook showcases Moriondo’s unique ability to bring these songs to life from the moment her sea otter-adorned ballpoint pen hits the page. She uses the spelling of “glow” as a clever play on words as she softly repeats: “G-L-O-W, just make me / G-L-O-W, just make me.”
The music video illustrates the concept of “glow” with dazzling Y2K-inspired visuals. From pearl-studded makeup looks to original 2000s-era My Little Pony figures, Moriondo depicts the ultimate pink fantasy that’s as bright and playful as the song itself. The video also features appearances from fellow Brooklyn-based musician Jhariah, touring bandmate Harlee Torres, a group of fans that were invited to join via an Instagram story sharing the shoot’s location, and more.
Moriondo is set to join Cavetown as support for their Running With Scissors Tour this upcoming fall. The 21-date run kicks off in Allentown, PA, on Sept. 21 before eventually coming to a close in Brooklyn, NY, on Oct. 25. Tickets and information for all of these upcoming shows can be found here.
