Nashville trio Moody Joody have perfectly embodied the feminine rage of realizing you’ve once again fallen into the trap of the picture-perfect “Average Joe” in their latest single. Another peek into their highly anticipated debut album Plain Jane, arriving October 30, this track is a delightfully satirical look into the pitfalls of modern dating and performative men.
Having just wrapped up a tour with The Maine along with a sold-out headline show in New York City, Moody Joody — Katie Forbes (vocals, guitar), Kayla Hall (vocals, keyboard) and Andrew Pacheco (producer, instrumentalist) — are showing no signs of slowing down. The band’s brand new chapter, beginning with the release of their debut album, boasts a slot in the upcoming 8123 Fest as well as still-undisclosed tour dates through 2026 and 2027.
Accompanying the single is a stunningly crafted music video featuring all three band members posed in perfectly curated scenes of quiet luxury, highlighting the artificial lure of the ideal partner. The entire appeal of the “Average Joe” is the persona: “Sit in your brickstone apartment / And you sip your manhattan / New York Times morning crosswords / don’t make you more of a man.” He’ll say and do all of the right things, present himself as the flawlessly stable partner, and then back out to evade commitment.

Moody Joody’s alt-pop sound gives a refreshing, gentle approach to a topic that typically leads with heavy, angry instrumentals guided by aggressive vocals. This track conveys rage in different ways; it’s still punchy and strong, yet soothing with its smooth melody and gliding vocals. The lyrics speak for themselves with no need for extra frills, creating space for each listener to feel their own unique set of emotions that come along with their version of the “Average Joe.”
This track took quite a while to put together, with instrumentalist and producer Andrew Pacheco describing it as “interesting, because it was one of the last songs we finished writing for the record,” in addition to giving some insight into the process of putting it to music.
“Kayla had some of the melodies and words already written, but the challenge became matching them to the right chords and production. It took a couple sessions to really nail down the right direction, but once we found it, it became this really important cinematic moment on the album.”
Moody Joody is keeping up the momentum following a huge year, breaking 21 million streams and releasing 6 singles in anticipation for their debut album. Plain Jane arrives October 30 and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for their future.
