If there’s one thing we know about Honey Revenge, it’s the fact that they definitely know how to party. “Sunday Scaries” is a lively, electronic pop-rock-infused track, all about living for the weekend and not fearing what the consequences of Sunday may bring you.
Just a few weeks shy of the release of their last single, “Butterfly Effect.” Along with the announcement of their sophomore album Loving and Losing, Honey Revenge made a surprise announcement via social media on July 8, announcing their newest single, “Sunday Scaries.” After its live debut on the Idobi Radio Summer School Tour, which Honey Revenge headlined for the second time, fans couldn’t wait for the release of their new favorite party anthem.
“Sunday Scaries” begins with a steady bass thumping under guitarist Donny Lloyd’s tangy plucked guitar intro, mimicking when you hear a bumping dance track from outside of a club before you make your way in. As we walk into Honey Revenge’s party, we’re met with lead singer Devin Papadol’s honest intentions on what she plans to make of her night, even if she knows she’s most definitely going to regret it in the morning.
“I’m on the verge of doing something I’m gonna regret / Maybe the poison in my cup will make me less aware”
The chorus gets the party started, fueling the upbeat, energetic nature of the track as the night begins. The chorus shares similarities with many 2000s pop punk party songs, reminiscent of tracks like “Party Like A Millionaire” By Millionaires. Leaving Papadol encouraging that no matter what funny business they get up to that night, they’re still in it for the fun of it all without the care of what tomorrow morning will bring.
Throughout the second verse, we follow along Papadol’s morning after as she retraces her steps from the night before. Filling her with instant regret, she cringes at the way she acted at the party, the messages she was sending while she was under the influence. Yet despite going through another anxiety-filled morning, and even though Papadol decides partying is getting a little boring and repetitive, she decides to continue the fun, proclaiming that this night will be different from the rest.
Prior to the release of “Sunday Scaries,” Honey Revenge premiered a music video for the track on YouTube on July 23. Directed by Grace Stromatt, the video features many cameos from friends of the band, such as Patrick Gilchrist (Not My Weekend) dressed in a shark costume and Jared Gaines (Vaines) as an obnoxious drunk party-goer. The video is full of the signature bright pink and purple hues of Honey Revenge, displaying an eclectic party thrown by the band. Full of music, dancing and plenty of drinking, right before, of course, cutting to the reality of the morning after before they press repeat and do it all over again.
On July 27, Honey Revenge also announced their fall co-headline tour with Dead Poets Society, starting in October and running all the way through December with support from Hunny and Broadside.
