Stand Atlantic, the Sydney-based pop-punk powerhouse, is back and better than ever with “Velcro,” a high-energy lovergirl anthem that is sure to leave the listener reminiscent and nostalgic to the beginning stages of a relationship. In true Stand Atlantic fashion, the track makes it almost impossible to sit still upon the first listen, creating a high energy feel that’ll have you jumping all around your room.
Stand Atlantic are no strangers to a breakout moment, catching worldwide attention from their 2018 debut record Skinny Dipping, to dominating the stage opening for bands like Waterparks, ONE OK ROCK and Knuckle Puck. Along with a highly anticipated upcoming UK run with Simple Plan, the rest of 2026 will be non-stop for the Australian quartet.
The first verse of “Velcro” begins by discussing the insecurity and internal conflict one may deal with during a developing relationship, struggling with self admittance and getting in one’s own head about their true feelings towards a person:
“Why is everything so hard to admit / I think about you it’s hard to resist / Why do I even try?”
Lead singer Bonnie Fraser is no stranger to those subjects, with many Stand Atlantic songs following themes of personal heartbreak and uncertainty — and “Velcro” seems to take a turn.
“I’ve spent 10 years avoiding love songs and writing only about what ended in heartbreak,” said Fraser (via BLUNT). “On ‘Velcro,’ that curse is finally broken.”
The energy rises within the pre chorus as we see Fraser’s feelings grow, gaining confidence within herself rather than self-sabotaging. Drums build as she sings “I wanna give it a try / I’m feeling brave / What can I do to make you stay?” The track’s chorus comes in with a full punch, leaving no room for a crowd to be at a standstill. With some of their most vulnerable lyrics backed by signature punchy guitars, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes a setlist staple.
Stand Atlantic also released a music video accompanying the track, directed by Brandon Lung. The video is shot at Young Henry’s brewery in Newton, Sydney, and features a simple live performance by the band under dimmed lights, taking the attention off of themselves and letting the listener really feel the lyrics.
With a full summer of UK/European festivals and two appearances on the Vans Warped Tour — along with the anticipation of new music that’s currently on the way — we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for Stand Atlantic.
