Fans of Olivia Rodrigo have been waiting patiently (or not so…) for new music after an insane run from her previous two albums, and watching paint dry became a daily excitement.

After Rodrigo’s astronomic rise to mainstream fame with SOUR and GUTS, everyone has been on the lookout for clues of something new from her. Purple painted walls with her iconic logo started popping up in mid-March, changing each day from purple to what watchers soon discovered was Rodrigo’s new persona color: pink.

After the complete range of colors had been completed, the word “love” appeared. This was assumed to be her new title based on her affinity for four letter albums, but it was soon revealed to be called you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, out June 12.

The first single from the highly anticipated album became available for everyone on April 17, and for a title leaning towards a breakup album, “drop dead” is a song all about a new love.

As a lead single, “drop dead” sits apart from the previous album’s lead singles’ — like “drivers license” and “vampire” — overall vibe. It’s fun, upbeat and has lyrics that won’t leave you crying in bed.

Rodrigo is a master at sad songs, but it’s always been amazing to see that she’s just as adept at the uplifting tracks. The lyrics of “drop dead” emulate every teen and young adult girl with a crush or brand new relationship. The beginning of the chorus is something many can relate to, “Oh, one night I was bored in bed / And stalked you on the internet / It’s feminine intuition / ‘Cause I always had a vision of us standing like this.”

Who hasn’t stalked their crush on the internet? Even Olivia Rodrigo does it!

The instrumentals of “drop dead” feel both modern and nostalgic. There’s a bit of an 80s electronic element mixed with Rodrigo’s personal pop touch, something that feels so uniquely her: girly and strong all at once.

The music video for “drop dead,” directed by Petra Collins, was filmed at the France’s Palace of Versailles, a nod to the lyric “You lookin’ like an angel on the walls of Versailles.” Rodrigo is seen dancing around in the video, spinning and rocking out with her headphones, which is the perfect way to listen along. Alone in your bedroom or with your friends, this song is one to just have fun with.

Rodrigo surprise performed “drop dead” at weekend two of Coachella when singer Addison Rae brought her on stage during her set, creating an adorable moment as both GRAMMY-nominated artists danced around and sang for a stunned crowd.

“drop dead” is just the beginning of this new era of Olivia Rodrigo and much more is to be expected from the star. you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is out June 12 and “drop dead is available to stream now!
