It was an exciting Tuesday night in Houston as fans quickly filled the venue, eagerly awaiting the show to start. Merch tables and bars were set up, with thrilled fans lined up at both. The 200-capacity room created an intimate setting where fans could experience the musicians up close, immersing themselves in the performance. The lights went dark, and soon Telescreens arrived, packing a punch and giving the crowd a show they’ll never forget.

A New York-based rock band, Telescreens dominated the stage on April 8 at The Bronze Peacock at the House of Blues. This was their last stop on tour supporting the band Quarters of Change with fellow opener Charlie Burg. Jackson Hamm (lead vocals/guitar), Austin Brenner (bass), Josiah Valerius (keys/synth) and Oliver Graf (drums) make up Telescreens, who is known for high energy shows, mixing rock with synth. Telescreens have been releasing music since 2020, with their debut album, The Return, shaping their sound and building a loyal following — one that has steadily climbed ever since

Telescreens brought a vibrant start to the night. Fans were jumping to the music, making the floor shake underneath. The band interacted with the crowd throughout the night, encouraging them to go crazy and clap to the infectious beats. Their set included about seven songs — including popular tunes such as, “Games”, “Phone Booth” and “Preacher” — making the crowd wish they had more time on stage.

Before they closed the set with “Nothing,” they recited the chorus so the crowd could sing it during the performance. Telescreens told the crowd to jump and scream the words and the crowd went wild; they were dancing, jumping and living in the moment. “Nothing” is a song off their upcoming album, Why The Lights Flicker, which is set to be released on June 12. Telescreens left the stage as the crowd erupted in roaring cheers, a sign of an opening band success.

The second opener of the night, Charlie Burg, stepped on stage solo with his guitar, a simplistic way to showcase his songs and connect with the crowd. Burg sang hit songs such as “Episode III” from his 2016 EP Live in Peter’s Attic. Burg released his first album, Two Moonlight, in 2018, and he has been making music ever since, with his latest release, Back To Earth (Grounded), released in March. For the last song of the set, Burg sang “I Think About You,” a song that will come out on April 17.

Shortly after, headliners Quarters of Change walked on stage for their performance, finding a packed and energized crowd waiting for them. Despite the technical issues the venue experienced, the band persevered and put on a fun show that loyal fans could shout every lyric to. The setlist primarily featured songs from their first album Into The Rift, performing just a few from their latest album, I Hope This Isn’t The End Of The World, including “Star”, “Supersonic” and “Perfect World.”

All three acts put on a high-energy performance, each providing a perfect glimpse into their discography for fans to enjoy. Telescreens was a brilliant opener to the night, warming up the crowd and building the momentum. After seeing Telescreens perform, it left fans eagerly awaiting their return to experience a full performance. If a band can rock a small stage in an intimate venue as much as Telescreens did, that means they have true talent and can perform big anywhere.

Although the Quarters of Change tour has come to an end, it’s not the end of shows for Telescreens. The band is set to continue on supporting Sir Chloe starting April 17 in Washington D.C.
