Paris WYA has crafted an anthem for the petty lovers and haters, those that wish the absolute worst for their exes while simultaneously finding themselves still insanely heartbroken over it all — and being so mad that they still feel this way. The perfect anti-Valentine’s Day rager, “Hate You More” is mixed with snappy lyrics, pop beats and infectious vocals, bound to pick listeners up off the bathroom floor and make them dance.

The Shanghai-born and U.S.-raised Paris WYA has spent her entire life thus far surrounded by music, learning multiple instruments and fine-tuning her vocals skills at an early age. While studying at Cornell University, Paris WYA released two EPs, the 2024 UNTANGLED and the 2025 GLITCH, both of which display her knack for production and her range in the dance and indie-pop worlds.

“Hate You More” is the third single from the artist’s upcoming EP MANNEQUIN. Throughout this new EP, listeners can see Paris WYA navigate a deeper and more introspective side of herself that hasn’t been shown yet, offering a more stripped-down glance into her life through the emotional and vulnerable lyrics and sounds.

After pressing play on “Hate You More,” listeners are hit with a steady beat right off the bat, one that you can’t help but nod and tap your foot along to. When the words come in, we meet Paris WYA in deep thought, wondering why she can’t stop thinking about her relationship that ended over a year ago from the song’s present. The singer combs through memories briefly in the first verse until she remembers that her ex was “hot-headed” and a “manchild,” which pushes us into the exasperated chorus.

“Why you got me crying on the bathroom floor / I should be here screaming, should be slamming doors / Not wasting mascara feeling immature and insecure / Wish I could hate you more,” Paris WYA sings.

The incredibly catchy chorus, laying over synths notes and addicting melodies and vocal riffs, finds Paris WYA angry that this break-up still causes her so much grief. The singer wishes that she could finally just be angry and resentful — maybe slamming doors or breaking things — instead of crying off all of her makeup like she currently does. Paris WYA wants to react slightly less mature than she normally would, because maybe that will make her feel better.

The verses that follow continue to move Paris WYA’s narrative along, with the singer looking back and wondering how she didn’t see the signs that “flash at me left and right,” because they seem so obvious now.

“A lot of us think that when we love hard and get hurt, the only way to move on is through hating the other person. But a big part of growing up for me was realizing that we don’t have to hate the people who hurt us,” Paris WYA said about the track. “That stage of grief, somewhere between anger and acceptance, is kind of the cool part. That’s where this song lives.”

As the bridge begins, Paris WYA repeats the pre-chorus, but this time it gradually slows down as a ticking sound appears, counting us down until we return to the jumping chorus. The timer could cleverly represent Paris WYA wanting to finally be over her ex. As she beautifully sings about the very end of her relationship, the singer dives into the way her ex told her that no one would ever love her and that she should apologize for wasting his time. As listeners glide through the song, getting to know her story, we root for Paris WYA to get over him and feel whole again, thus the tick, tick, tick and musical eruption into the final chorus, showing us that she has finally moved toward the next step: acceptance.

Paris WYA’s vocals are much to be noted in “Hate You More,” as her hypnotizing tone lures listeners into her sound and captivates them to her story. Throughout each chorus, Paris WYA’s voice glides up and down, crafting an addicting sound that is bound to become an ear worm to all who hear it.

To those in need of a love song disguised as an angry anthem or vice versa, Paris WYA has just the song for you. “Hate You More” has the perfect amount of love, resentment and pettiness to make it just right for any situation one may find themselves in. Paris WYA’s sound keeps growing and improving with each release, which makes the eager anticipation for her upcoming EP MANNEQUIN so exciting and palpable.
